Google Webmaster Tools Now Allows You To Link Up With Your Google Analytics Account

Google Webmaster Tools has made a recent change by adding the ability for verified webmaster users that have active Google Analytics accounts to link their accounts together. This change appeared in my GWT account in the first week of Feb 2011 on the Verification Home page(when signed into google). This is a small step to us but a big step for Google as this will help them to know who’s who in their search for high reputation content sources on the web. Google has not mentioned this change in their Google Webmaster Central Blog as the only change they have blogged about lately is the rounding their search queries in webmaster tools which seemed to have pissed off some webmasters on blogger.com. None-the-less Google is obviously making major improvements across the board, only letting us know about some of them as they go along.

What are your thoughts on this? Is this just a way for Google to gain more knowledge about webmasters who use their tools? Or is this an added convenience to webmasters?

    I think Google done this to convince webmasters to use their tools instead of others because I am not so sure how it would benefit the webmasters. Can you please give me an insight into this webmasters and analytics linkup?

    google has allowed verification of site ownership through Analytics linking for some time.

      Yes, this is true, but you have not been able to “Link” the accounts. Sign in and check it out! When you click the Link to Google Analytics link in webmaster tools it now shows a list of all of your Google Analytic accounts for you to choose from. You can also connect sub domains to it as well!

    I don’t see this feature in my Google Webmaster Tools Dashboard… looking in the Home page with all my site listed, only to see a Manage column on the right side…

      /webmasters/verification/home should get you there if your signed into google.

    Hey Jon, great find! I’ve got the linking happening between my GWT and GA accounts. Have you seen any changes to your GA dashboard? Are the GWT information being fed into GA once they are linked?
